KDFSA was founded on the 1st of June 2005 in Durban, SOUTH AFRICA when a group of individuals, volunteers of different racial and ethnic backgrounds came together and decided that they wanted to promote the awareness of Kawasaki Disease in South Africa, after it was found out that the son of the Founder / President, Nicolas Satiya was diagnosed with KD and very few medical practitioners and members of the public knew anything about this rare disease.
KDFSA is a registered Non-Profit Organization with the Department of Social and Development in South Africa, with it's registration number being: 046-135-NPO, and the organization is supported by donations, sponsorships and members of the management.
KDFSA has a Constitution / Founding Document, that meets the requirements of section 12 of the Non Profit Organization Act of SOUTH AFRICA.
KDFSA is undertaking a number of projects which will promote the Awareness of KD not only in South Africa but also in other parts of the world.
The first project launched is the KDFSA website, which is also linked to the K.D.F. USA, and the KD Forum sites. The second project launched is a support network, which is run by Sharon Satiya, who co-ordinates counseling and support to parents who's children have suffered with KD. The third project is ongoing, which is the production and distribution of KD Information Brouchers to Hospitals , Clinics, Child Care Providers and the General Public. KDFSA is also undertaking the printing and distribution of KD Information Wall Charts to Hospitals, Clinics and Child Care Providers.
Presentations and talks are currently being conducted in various Hospitals, Clinics and Child Care Providers, creating an awareness amongst the medical community and public.
KDFSA does not only aim raise issues of KD but also any other issues that may concern the general public. We are there to serve without expecting to receive anything in return, however we cannot do it alone. KDFSA aims to reach the entire S.A., although how impossible it may seem to a natural person but we believe that we can do it with your help and support.
